For example, you might start by sharing one thing you accomplished each day in a message to your accountability buddy.
  2. Choose your accountability method
    The best method is the one you’ll stick with. What works best for you? You’ve got options:
    • Partner up with another blogger 
    • Join a small group of like-minded bloggers 
    • Use an app to track your progress
  3. Set clear, measurable goals and deadlines
    Vague goals are hard to achieve. Instead, make your goals specific and measurable. For instance, instead of “write more,” try “publish two blog posts per week.” This way, you’ll know exactly what you’re aiming for.
  4. Establish a regular schedule for check-ins
    Consistency is key when building habits. Pick a time that works for you and your accountability partner(s) and stick to it. Maybe it’s every Monday morning or Friday afternoon. What time would fit best in your schedules?
  5. Create a system for tracking progress
    How will you know if you’re making progress? Create a simple system to track your goals. This could be a spreadsheet, a bullet journal, or even a habit-tracking app. The important thing is to make it easy to use and update regularly.

My accountability partners and I, we’re always meeting on the last Friday of the month to review the month and talk about what is in store for the month to come. When one of my accountability partners changed her schedule, we agreed to meet on the Thursday before. 

Building new habits takes time and patience. By anticipating these common obstacles and having strategies to overcome them, you’re setting yourself up for success in your blogging journey. 

Tools and Technology to Reinforce Your Habit

In our digital age, there are so many great tools out there to help us build accountability habits. Let’s explore some options to make your habit creation smoother and more productive.

Apps for accountability partnerships

Have you ever wished for a pocket-sized accountability partner? Well, your smartphone can be just that! There are apps designed specifically to help you stay on track with your goals. For example, Stickk lets you set goals and even put money on the line to motivate you. Or try Coach.me, which has a habit tracker and connects you with real coaches for personalized accountability, too. I do want to say that I haven’t used these apps, but I found them during my research. If you have tried them, give me a comment and let me know how you liked them.

As a blogger, you’re juggling multiple tasks all the time. Why not use a tool to help you keep everything organized? Asana is a great tool for planners who like lists plus you can create boards for different projects and move tasks around as you complete them. It also has a calendar for weekly or monthly views. 

Another great option is Airtable. It’s a database with many options like checkboxes, dropdowns, and the ability to attach files and images easily. 

For example, I use Airtable to track my blog posts and Pinterest pins. It is Google Sheets on steroids. 

Communication platforms for regular check-ins

Staying in touch with your accountability partner is crucial. Luckily, there are tons of great options out there. Slack is fantastic for creating dedicated channels for your accountability group. Or if you prefer face-to-face chats, Zoom makes video calls a breeze.

Ultimately, the best tool is the one you’ll actually use. It might take some trial and error to find what works best for you, but once you find your favorite it’ll reinforce your accountability habit, for sure. 

My accountability partners and I have a little Facebook group between the three of us. We post our monthly goals and create monthly events to get together via Zoom. It works like a charm.

Leveraging these tools and technologies will make building your accountability habits easier. They can help you stay on track, measure your progress, and connect with your accountability partners more effectively.

You can discuss your progress, any challenges you’re facing, and your goals for the upcoming week. I believe these regular accountability check-ins can improve your blogging consistency.

Using accountability to improve specific blogging tasks

Accountability isn’t just about the big picture – it can also help with specific tasks. Let’s say you struggle with keyword research. Why not make it a focus of your accountability practice? You could set a goal to research keywords for your next four blog posts and share your findings with your accountability partner.

Try this: During your next check-in, share a rough outline of your upcoming blog post. Ask your partner for their thoughts. They might suggest an angle you hadn’t considered or point out a section that needs more explanation. This kind of collaborative brainstorming can take your content to the next level.

I love it when my accountability partners and I brainstorm for our businesses. It brings the best ideas and aha moments to the surface. 

Integrating accountability into your blogging routine is about creating a system that works for you. It might take some tweaking to find the perfect balance, but the results are worth it.
